TV viewers miss end of game

Advertiser Staff

A sellout crowd of 50,000 withstood the usual traffic inconveniences into Aloha Stadium to watch Hawai'i upset nationally ranked and unbeaten Brigham Young, 72-45, in UH's season football finale yesterday.

Those fans were lucky — they had the opportunity to see the entire game.

Viewers at home did not.

With Hawai'i well ahead with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter and the game stretching past the four-hour mark, ESPN2 switched its nationally televised game.

Oceanic ran a graphic saying, "Beyond Oceanic Cable's control, ESPN2 has switched to its normally scheduled program. We apologize for any inconvenience."

The UH-BYU game kicked off at 11:05 a.m. It ended at 3:36 p.m.

ESPN2 switched to a North Carolina State-Syracuse basketball game, which was scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
