Sereima Tuvakawa has won the mayor's grand prize in the city's annual holiday wreath contest. Her patriotic piece constructed of satin and decorated with doves and stars, won $200. There were about 85 entries this year.

Other winners are:

• Adult Division: first place, Kay Yoshida; second place, Debbie Asing; third place, Kathy Tosh; Judge's Choices, Larley Nishino and Norberto Cabugon.

• Theme Wreaths: first place, Valerie Fernandez; second place, Jan Smith; third place, Lucy Kapihe; Judge's Choices, Jeanette Zane and Rustic Images.

• Children and Youth: first place, Class of Manukai Two (Early Education Center); second place, Waimalu Elementary School, preschool; third place, Seagull School of Kapolei; Judge's Choices, Kawananakoa Middle School, Grade 6 and Pueo 6, Early Education Center.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Aloha Chapter, has honored six Outstanding Philanthropists. They are:

• Outstanding Philanthropist: Donald Kim.

• Outstanding Corporation: Nissan Motors Corp. in Hawai'i.

•Outstanding Small Business: Dowling Co. Inc.

•Outstanding Volunteer Fund-raiser: Jean Rolles.

• Outstanding Fundraising Professional: Judith Dawson.

• In Memoriam: KJ Luke.

Local Hispanic businessman Eric Carson has been appointed director of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the nation's largest Hispanic business organization. He is president and chief executive officer of Reflections Glass Co., recognized as one of Hawai'i's 50 fastest-growing companies.
