16-year-old boy charged with murder

Advertiser Staff

Police yesterday charged a 16-year-old boy with murder after a Family Court judge waived jurisdiction over the youth, who was arrested in connection with the July 14 beating death of William Van Winkle in Wai'anae District Park.

Police charged Victor Nelson Faagau with second-degree murder. His bail was set at $100,000.

Police arrested five people in the investigation and charged three of them, including Calvin Dole, 18, and Branden Adkins, 18.

A jogger found Van Winkle, 36, dead on one of the basketball courts of the park. He was wearing only a T-shirt; his shorts were found in a nearby trash can.

Witnesses told police that a group beat Van Winkle to death after he nearly ran into one of them on his bicycle, said homicide Lt. Bill Kato.
