Filmmaker Edgy Lee is launching a new co-production with KHET (Hawai'i Public Television) and a Mainland sister PBS (Public Broadcasting System) station, tentatively entitled "Civil Liberties: Martial Law in Hawai'i, 1941-44." It is a documentary on "ordinary people doing extraordinary things during extraordinary times."
In the aftermath of Sept. 11, Lee said the movie should offer life lessons from people in duress when "unalienable rights" as Americans were in jeopardy, as martial law prevailed during and after World War II. So, she is seeking to hear from people with stories to share about rebuilding lives.
Her earlier "Waikiki: In the Wake of Dreams" documentary has been selected into the New York International Independent Film Festival, premiering Feb. 23. It also has screenings in Los Angeles this month.
Lee is eager to get her hands on footage 16 mm, home movies, WWII and post-war photos that emphasize life 1941-'44. Reach her through FilmWorks Pacific, her producing company, at FilmWorksPacific@aol.com or 599-6403.
