The Left Lane
Holiday show rolls on

By Vicki Viotti,

Kudos to the Aunties and Uncles, a group that brings holiday unrest to rest homes each year, for taking their show on the road again.

On Saturday, the groups put on its 11th annual floor show.

The marathon of caroling, limbo-dancing, juggling and general hoopla is performed for the elderly and ill by a wide assortment of citizens. This year, University of Hawai'i men's volleyball players signed on for Saturday's first stop, at Maunalani Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Typically about 30 members make it to any one gig, said group founder Riley Hakoda; magician Glen Bailey is a regular fixture.

The group restrained itself somewhat at the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, keeping the antics to sedate caroling, but delivered the full enchilada at Palolo Chinese Home, Shriners and Kuakini.

"It usually starts with caroling," Hakoda said, "and then it just rolls."
