Dooley, 52, joined KITV in 1996 after 22 years with The Advertiser. Dooley said yesterday that he missed working at a newspaper and decided to return.

"I've missed being able to do long-form stories, and the print medium is something that I started out with and have missed," Dooley said. "I certainly enjoyed television. It was lot of fun, quite interesting."

Dooley produced scores of investigative projects during his years at The Advertiser, with most focusing on government corruption and questionable dealings by public officials and private businesses.

His stories on the Bishop Estate for The Advertiser and KITV foreshadowed the various investigations that led to the removals of the trustees and the reform of the operations of the trust, now known as Kamehameha Schools.

"Jim is widely respected for the investigative reporting he's done both here and at KITV," said Advertiser editor Saundra Keyes. "We're delighted that he's rejoining us."

"We really appreciated the job that he did for us and we will miss him," said KITV general manager Mike Rosenberg. "We know that he'll be a valuable addition to The Advertiser. And he's a good guy, too."
