High winds buffeting state

By Mike Gordon
Advertiser Staff Writer

High winds and rain are in the forecast for today and tomorrow, the National Weather Service said.

Gusts of up to 100 mph were raking the summit of Haleakala this morning and a combination of strong winds and snow were creating dangerous conditions on the summits of Maua Loa and Mauna Kea on the Big Island.

On O'ahu, winds over the Pali gusted at 50 to 60 mph.

A flood watch was in effect until 4 p.m. for all of the Big Island and Maui. Showers have been short, but are frequent and intense.

Skies are expected to clear Saturday.
