Murder case opened in 11-story fall

A 52-year-old Hawai'i man was arrested for investigation of murder yesterday after a woman plunged 11 floors to her death from a room in the Ohana Waikiki Surf Hotel.

Shortly before 3 a.m. yesterday, neighbors were awakened by sounds of an argument in the hotel room, police said. The hotel is at 422 Royal Hawaiian Avenue.

The woman, 41, was found lifeless in the parking lot 11 floors below a short time later, and the death was first reported as a possible suicide.

But when investigators found that the man's own injuries and the condition of the room indicated signs of a struggle, they placed him under arrest.

He was being held at the cellblock last night pending further investigation.
