Sensley to pass on Cal, play for Iona

Advertiser Staff

Former Kalaheo basketball standout Julian Sensley apparently will play college basketball at Iona instead of Cal, according to published reports this week.

Sensley, a 6-foot-9 forward, was considered one of the nation's top high school recruits last season. He committed to Cal, but failed to attain the required SAT score to gain admission.

He is currently enrolled at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Calif., and is thus no longer bound to the letter of intent he signed with Cal.

"I just wasn't happy at Cal," Sensley told the San Francisco Chronicle this week. "I wasn't getting what I needed.

"It's (between) Cal and Iona, and I'm about 80 percent sure it's Iona."

Sensley was an all-state selection as a junior at Kalaheo before enrolling at St. Thomas More, a prep school in Connecticut. He played two seasons at St. Thomas More, and was considered by many recruiting publications to be among the top 20 high school players in the nation last season.

Solomon Brown, Sensley's teammate at St. Thomas More the past two seasons, is the starting point guard as a true freshman for Iona.

Sensley re-took the SAT earlier this month, but has yet to receive his scores. If he receives the required score, he can enroll at Iona next semester, although he would probably not play until next season.
