Stanford's Logan Tom, a junior, leads the Cardinal into tonight's final against Long Beach State.
Tom was born in Hawai'i and her father, Mel, is a 1960 Maryknoll graduate.
A three-time All-American, Tom averaged 4.95 kills, 0.88 blocks and 3.49 digs per game this season.
Sophomore Kim Willoughby, Hawai'i's lone All-American this season, averaged 7.20 kills and 3.66 digs; her kill average was fourth-best in NCAA history. The Wa-hine finished their season, 29-6, in the regional semifinals.
Wahine Margaret Vakasausau, Willoughby's setter, had no argument with Tom's selection as the country's best, but left little doubt where her vote would have gone.
"There are a lot of great players out there," Vaka-sausau said.
"I know they're taking into account that Logan took her team to the final four, but Kim took us as far as we could go."
