Meet Carla a cool and trendy pre-teen with a message for young girls: "Powerful girls have powerful bones." As the official spokescharacter of the National Bone Health Campaign, which promotes optimal bone health in girls 9 to 12 years old so they can reduce their risk of osteoporosis later in life, Carla guides visitors through a colorful Web site stressing the importance of calcium and weight-bearing physical activities. The site offers facts, quizzes and activities, including a chance to load Carla's lunch tray with calcium-rich foods. The campaign is sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health and the National Osteoporosis Foundation.
