Hawai'i Pacific tops Lincoln, 86-74

Alvin Stephenson scored 20 points to lead five Sea Warriors in double figures as Hawai'i Pacific defeated Lincoln (Mo.), 86-74, last night in a men's college basketball game at the Blaisdell Arena.

Nash Subotic scored 17 points, Nic Walters added 16, Zack Anderson 14 and Nate Block 10 for HPU. Block also had a game-high 15 rebounds.

HPU improved to 5-3. Lincoln dropped to 5-6.


Chaminade 89, Western State (Colo.) 75: Leon Ballard and Albert Powell each scored 17 points, and Mike Donegan added 12 as Chaminade defeated Western State at Gunnison, Colo.

Igor Beljanski and Willie Davis each grabbed seven rebounds for Chaminade.

Chaminade is 4-3, Western State 1-9.


Hawai'i-Hilo 83, Potsdam State (N.Y.) 59: Scott Prather scored 23 points and Derek Mgbeke added 22 as Hilo defeated Potsdam State at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Kyle Bartholomew scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Vulcans, who are 7-2.


KAYAKING

Colin recognized: Former Kailua resident Kathy Colin has been listed in the Best in Sports 2001 Collector's Edition of Real Sports magazine. Colin and teammate Ruth Nortje were both recognized for their "outstanding performances as members of the 2001 U.S. National Sprint Canoe and Kayak Team."

The new team placed fourth and eighth at the World Championships, which featured more than 700 athletes from 54 countries.

Colin, who lives and trains in San Diego, competed for the United States at the Sydney Olympics.
