Tonight's Must-See
"That Thing You Do" (1996), 7 p.m., TNN. On a night stuffed with reruns we can revisit a terrific little film. Tom Hanks gave up the chance to star in "Jerry Maguire" to work on this film, which he wrote and directed. It's a portrait of small-town guys, stretching to become stars in the 1960s. He takes a supporting role here, but the key roles go to some talented young actors. Tom Everett Scott, now of "Philly," stars. Liv Tyler ("Lord of the Rings") plays someone who's much too nice to be caught up in the rock world. "That Thing You Do" has an infectious title song. It also has moments especially the first time the guys hear their song on the radio that are magical.
Of note
"Survivor: Africa," 7 p.m., CBS. Tonight, the field is trimmed to six.
"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. Two bodies are found stuffed into separate highway culvert pipes.
"Frontline: Merchants of Cool," 9 p.m., PBS. There are people whose sole job is to learn what's cool. They interview and photograph teens in this rerun that analyzes the coolness industry.
"The Agency," 9 p.m., CBS. Ronny Cox plays the CIA director who's desperately trying to protect a spy's identity.
"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. Here's a rerun of last year's Christmas episode with troubles everywhere. Chen is having her baby, and Greene and Corday visit a New York surgeon who may be able to treat him.
Of local note
"University of Hawai'i Rainbow Classic Basketball," KFVE. In continuing first-round play Boston College plays Miami (Ohio) at 5 p.m., and Georgia takes on Arkansas State at 7:30 p.m.
