HPU rolls to third victory in a row

Nash Subotic got his first double-double of the season with 28 points and 11 rebounds to lead Hawai'i Pacific to a 94-70 men's basketball victory over Cal State-Monterey Bay at Blaisdell Arena last night.

Subotic was 8 of 15 from the field, including 5 of 10 from 3-point range.

Nic Walters scored a season-high 19 for the Sea Warriors (6-3), who won their third in a row.

Rocky Steryo led Monterey Bay (4-10) with 23 points.


PREP BASKETBALL

Iolani Classic: Ikaika Alama-Francis scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers to lift Kalaheo to a 56-46 victory over Kealakehe of the Big Island in an opening round game of the Iolani Prep Classic yesterday at Iolani gym.

In other games, Clovis West (Fresno, Calif.) defeated Farrington 88-51, Garfield (Seattle) stopped 'Aiea 77-48 and Fairfax (Los Angeles) routed Roosevelt 90-50.

In today's winner's bracket, Wilson (Florence, S.C.) plays Garfield at 3:30 p.m., Northwestern (Miami) plays Clovis West at 5, Iolani plays Fairfax at 6:30 and Kalaheo plays Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.) at 8. (See full schedule)


BASEBALL

Komine honors: Nebraska pitcher Shane Komine was named a preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Komine, a Kalani High graduate, was 14-2 with 157 strikeouts and a 3.35 ERA last season for the Cornhuskers.

Komine, a right-handed senior, was named to the first team.

Kainoa Obrey, a Brigham Young junior third baseman, was named to the third team. Obrey is an Iolani graduate.
