Hawai'i Pacific wins fourth in row, 78-54

Nash Subotic scored 26 points and Nick Spajic added 15 as Hawai'i Pacific beat Cal State Dominguez Hills, 78-54, last night at the Blaisdell Arena.

The Sea Warriors made 18-of-19 free throw attempts, while the Toros converted just 5-of-9.

Subotic and John Avilla had four steals apiece for HPU, which forced 20 turnovers.

HPU also held a 47-32 rebounding advantage.

HPU has won its last four games to improve to 7-3. Dominguez Hills dropped to 1-6.

• Northern Colorado 89, Chaminade 70: Aaron Austin scored 20 points and Howard Jackson added 15 as Northern Colorado beat Chaminade at Greeley, Colo.

Northern Colorado shot 23-of-27 from the free throw line, while Chaminade was just 12-of-22.

The Bears also outrebounded the Silverswords, 41-27.

Igor Beljanski and Albert Powell each scored 14 points to lead the Silverswords.

Northern Colorado improved to 5-4. Chaminade dropped to 4-4.

• Tulsa 80, Buffalo 75: Dante Swanson scored 19 points as Tulsa beat Buffalo in the opening game at Lai'e.

Buffalo (5-3) closed to within one point, at 76-75, with 27 seconds left in the game when Darcel Williams hit a 3-pointer.

Swanson and Greg Harrington each hit two free throws as time closed out to seal the victory for the Golden Hurricane (7-1).

Tulsa made all 16 of its free throws, while Buffalo was 4-of-5.

Harrington and teammate Kevin Johnson ended with 10 points apiece. Harrington also had 12 assists.

• New Mexico St. 94, Valparaiso 77: Brandon Mason and Eric Channing each scored 26 points to lead New Mexico State over Valparaiso.

The Aggies (5-4) trailed by two points, 40-38, at the half, but then caught the Crusaders (7-3) early in the second half on a layup by Mason.

Mason followed with a 3-pointer to make it 43-40 and New Mexico State never trailed the rest of the way. The Aggies built a 24-point lead on a Mason 3-pointer with a little more than a minute to play.

Channing hit six of his nine 3-point shots, while Mason was 5-of-8 from 3-point range.

Raitis Grafs led Valparaiso with 14 points, while teammates Antonio Falu and Jared Nuness added 11 apiece.

• Montana 78, Navy 61: Brent Cummings scored 20 points as Montana beat Navy.

The Grizzlies outscored the Midshipmen 36-22 in the second half.

• Brigham Young-Hawai'i 70, Columbia 65: Scott Salisbury and Alexus Foyle scored 16 points apiece as Division II Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat Columbia.

Yuta Tabuse scored 13 points and Keli'i Naihe added 12 for the Seasiders.

Craig Austin scored 20 points to lead Columbia.


WATER POLO

• BYUH's Kalabic an All-American: Vanja Kalabic of the Brigham Young-Hawai'i men's water polo team was named to the first-team All-America team yesterday by the American Water Polo Coaches Association.

Kalabic, a 6-foot-3 driver from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, scored 73 goals and averaged 3.17 goals per game.
