DIRK J. VAN EMMERIK, 71, of Kailua, died Dec. 19, 2001. Born in Detroit. A U.S. Navy veteran and engineer retired from General Motors. NOBUKO HIRAI, 75, of Honolulu, died Dec. 11, 2001. Born in Hilo, Hawai'i. Retired from C.R. Newton Company.
