Kushi received a $5,000 scholarship for a three-month internship at The Queen's Medical Center.

The winners of the Japan-America Society of Hawaii's fifth annual Japan Bowl were: level 2 — Adrian Martin, Kekoa Kuamoo-Peck and Noelle Lum of Kamehameha Schools; level 3 — Brandon Yoshimoto, Kendrick Kunichika and Glenn Shigetomi of Punahou School; level 4 — William Lee, Julian Chun and Janelle Fukumoto of Iolani School. The winners, among 108 students statewide who competed, will represent Hawai'i in the National Japan Bowl Japanese Language Competition in March in Washington, D.C.
