Changing fortunes

If you have European currency stashed away from past vacations, it can help victims of the World Trade Center attacks.
It's possible to exchange old bills (but usually not coins) at large U.S. banks and currency exchanges, but you can also put them to charitable use through the fund-raising effort sponsored by the European Union. Donate your leftover currency by mailing it to: Euro Currency Project, The Bank of New York, 235 Main St., White Plains, NY 10601. Donations will be accepted until Feb. 15. The project doesn't include currencies of European countries that aren't switching to the euro, which include Britain, Denmark, Sweden, and Switzerland.
