The Left Lane
New York premiere, Hawai'i screening

New Yorkers got to see it first — "December 7/September 11," a Hawai'i-made video on the aftermath of the September attacks, was screened at the Museum of Modern Art on Dec. 6.

But now it's Hawai'i's turn: The film will be screened at the Honolulu Academy of Arts at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6. It will be shown along with "Primetime War," about two TV cameramen whose beat is the Israeli/Arab conflict. The one-hour program, organized by the

Contemporary Museum, is free.

"December 7/September 11," produced by Paul Nishijima and Ann Brandman, focuses on the 100th

Infantry Battalion and Hawai'i's 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the most highly decorated unit in World War II. Six Japanese American veterans were asked to recall their responses to the bombing of Pearl Harbor and to give their reaction to the tragedy of Sept. 11. Their thoughts about war and their comments on racial profiling are especially relevant today.
