Getting your pet through the fireworks

 •  Cuddle your pet on New Year's Eve

Advertiser Staff

The Hawaiian Humane Society recommends the following precautions to keep pets safe during New Year's Eve celebrations:

• Make sure all pets wear identification in case they get lost. No tag? Write your phone number on the pet's collar. Identity microchips are available. Have a photo of your pet.

• Keep pets indoors, in a quiet room if possible, when fireworks begin. Bring outdoor pets into the garage or lanai.

• Stay with your pets to comfort and reassure them.

• Ask your veterinarian if you think your pet needs a sedative.

• If you find a lost animal, call the society at 946-2187, Ext. 285, or bring the animal to the shelter at 2700 Wai'alae Avenue in Mo'ili'ili, open 24 hours a day for emergency rescues or to receive lost animals.

• If you lose your pet, go to the shelter to look for it and to report it lost, noon to 8 p.m. weekdays; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 31, Jan. 1 and weekends.
