Tonight's Must-See
"Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" (1997), 7 p.m., NBC. John Berendt wrote a best seller about this, but could it be turned into a good movie? Partly. Director Clint Eastwood tried too much. The movie is unfocused, but has some fine moments. Eastwood beautifully uses the settings and John Mercer's music. He isn't in the cast but picked top talent. Kevin Spacey and John Cusack play the defendant and the writer.
Of Note
"Ponderosa," 7 p.m., Pax TV. A prequel to "Bonanza," it starts before Ben Cartwright has money or a ranch. He has three handsome sons and soon will be widowed for the third time. The script is a bit stiff, but director Simon Wincer has crafted a solid movie.
