Fun House
Heavenly Father, I'm feeling the heat ...

By Wayne Merritt, Waikiki

Thirty-some years ago, when our oldest daughter was around 4 years old, it was our custom to put the kids to bed as a family. Our two daughters would kneel by their beds and say their nightly prayers as we bowed our heads, standing behind them. They were encouraged to say whatever was on their minds, but most often they followed a pretty set pattern.

However, one night after a very rough day, having gotten to trouble on several occasions and feeling particularly put upon, our elder daughter, in a voice filled with quiet despair, said the following:

"Heavenly Father, bless Mommy and Daddy and Grandma and Grandpa ... and everybody else that bosses me around."

It still brings tears to my eyes when I reflect on it.
