Wahine's game at El Paso postponed

Advertiser Staff

Today's University of Hawai'i women's basketball game at Texas-El Paso was postponed after winter storms delayed the Wahine's travel from Boise, Idaho, yesterday.

The Wahine defeated Boise State, 61-48, and were to play the Miners to complete a two-game road trip.

The Wahine left Boise yesterday morning after a 1 1/2 hour delay because of snow and fog, but missed their connecting flight in Salt Lake City. It was the last direct flight yesterday to El Paso.

UH coach Vince Goo said he spent four hours at Salt Lake City airport trying to get his team to El Paso in time for today's 2 p.m. game, but was told only standby seats were available.

He said the game would be rescheduled as part of one the UH's remaining road trips.

"Going on this road trip I told (the team) we need to win two games," Goo said. "So I joked with them that they only won one.

"We wanted play, but it's part of traveling. I don't want to hear (from other teams) how tough it is to travel to Hawai'i."

The Wahine plan to leave Salt Lake City today on a direct flight to Honolulu.
