Youth peace festival Saturday

By Jean Chow
Advertiser Staff Writer

A family youth culture festival titled "Victory Over Violence — Youth Standing Together for the Sake of Peace" is planned Saturday at the Neal Blaisdell Arena.

Co-chaired by the Soka Gakkai International Youth Peace Committee and the Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline, the festival is intended to encourage young people to play an active role in fostering nonviolence in their communities.

There will be two shows with professional entertainers as well as youth groups promoting the festival's theme. Performers include Mainland musical artist Duncan Sheik and local favorites DisGuyz, Hypersquad and Drill Team Hawaii. Exhibition booths will be set up by the event sponsors.

Doors open at noon for the first show and 5 p.m. for the second. Performances begin at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. Tickets are free, but must be reserved by calling 595-1000.
