Kaiser workers to vote on contract

Advertiser Staff

Kaiser Foundation Hospital and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan employees represented by Local 5 of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union will be voting on a new contract this week.

A tentative settlement was reached Saturday night, just hours before the old contract expired, the union said yesterday. Under the proposed three-year pact, nearly 1,700 Kaiser employees on O'ahu, Maui and the Big Island would receive a pair of 3 percent raises, followed by a 4 percent raise.

If the contract is approved, licensed practical nurses will see their current hourly pay of $16.76 climb to $18.50.

Local 5 also represents Kaiser housekeepers, maintenance staff, groundskeepers, pharmacy technicians, accounting personnel and most patient care technicians.
