Palolo man was killed, autopsy shows

An autopsy showed a 64-year-old Palolo Valley man found dead in his home Saturday was murdered, police said.

The man died from blunt trauma to the head, the medical examiner said.

Police had been awaiting the autopsy results after checking the home at 3404 Kupa'a Drive for a friend who said he had not heard from the man, whom he spoke with every day, since the previous Sunday.

Detectives were called after officers found the body at the front doorway.

The man's name has not been released. Police said he was a former accountant who managed several apartment units. His brother told police he also studied law.

The motive remains unclear, as there were no signs of burglary.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.

5 arrested in effort to stop teen drinking

Hilo police arrested two adults and three girls Friday night on suspicion of supplying alcohol to juveniles and drinking under the legal age.

The arrests are the result of an effort by a crime reduction unit made up of Juvenile Aid Section and South Hilo Patrol Division officers.

One of those arrested was a 22-year-old Hilo man who allegedly supplied alcohol to an 11-year-old and two 14-year-old girls in a public park on Banyan Drive.

Police will continue the crackdown all year to try to reduce underage drinking and driving, said Sgt. Randy Apele of the Traffic Services Section.
