"A security guard in Waikiki recalls helping a man who looks like Mr. Kubo," said Officer Phil Camero of the Honolulu Police Department's Missing Persons Detail, citing what he called a "solid tip" received yesterday. "The clothing matches and the man gave his name to the guard."
Masayuki Kubo, 80, has been missing since June 23.
The guard contacted police yesterday after seeing a missing persons bulletin on Masayuki Kubo at her workplace, Camero said.
"She recalls helping a man who appeared tired and lost about a week ago," Camero said.
Kubo reportedly was carrying a bus pass and about $10 cash when he left his Imperial Plaza condominium unit on Kapi'olani Boulevard on a daily walk from which he never returned.
This is the third time since May 13 that Kubo has been reported missing, but on the other occasions he was found within eight hours.
"There's no evidence that Mr. Kubo has met with foul play and we're still investigating this as a missing person," Camero said.
A story in Saturday's Advertiser generated some tips that police have been unable to substantiate, Camero added.
Kubo left home without his reading glasses, according to his wife, Jessie.
