Home Depot nears Pearl City opening

Advertiser Staff

The Home Depot will open its Pearl City store next week, about a week and a half ahead of schedule.

The store, at 1021 Kamehameha Highway across from Sam's Club, will open Thursday, the company said.

About 160 people were hired to staff the 130,000-square-foot warehouse and 15,000-square-foot garden center.

Home Depot opened its first Hawai'i store in 1999 in Iwilei. The Pearl City store is the home-improvement retailer's third in Hawai'i and second on O'ahu. A store on Maui opened earlier this year.

Home Depot's customer base comprises do-it-yourselfers, contractors and other home-improvement professionals. Stores typically stock 40,000 to 50,000 items.

Home Depot opens about 200 new stores a year. It operates 1,181 stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, Chile and Argentina. Annual sales total more than $45 billion.

Pearl City store hours will be from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
