Police arrest man for store damage

Police arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly causing $12,000 in damages to a Waikiki store early yesterday morning.

The man was apparently arguing over the use of a public phone outside 333 Seaside Ave. shortly after 2 a.m. when he threw a bottle through the store window. He then kicked in the store's four glass doors.

He was arrested an hour later for second-degree criminal property damage.

Man found dead on football field

A man found dead yesterday morning at the Kaimuki High School football field may have committed suicide.

A runner about to use the school track around 5:30 a.m. found the man's body hanging from a football practice machine, police said.

There was no evidence of foul play or suspicious injuries. Police located the victim's family.

Home fire causes $45,000 damage

A fire believed to have started in a bedroom did an estimated $45,000 worth of damage at an 'Ewa Beach townhouse yesterday morning.

Eight Honolulu fire companies responded to the 9:40 a.m. alarm at 91-613 Kuilioloa Place. The fire was brought under control at 9:52 a.m. and fully extinguished at 10:24 a.m.

The fire was contained to the upper floor master bedroom of the two-story townhouse, said Honolulu Fire spokesman Capt. Richard Soo.

Two boys, ages 5 and 11, and a teenage girl and boy escaped the blaze without injury. A 34-year-old woman and 70-year-old woman, who also live there, were not home during the fire.

Officials believe the fire began under the bed, but said the cause is under investigation. Damage is estimated at $30,000 to the structure and $15,000 to the contents.
