Fitness habits begin early

By Jean Chow

Learning to lead a healthy, active life starts in childhood. That's the message the Honolulu Club is promoting with its Kids' Sports Camp. Open to youngsters ages 7 to 15, the camp presents activities such as golfing, hiking, tennis, wallyball (volleyball on a racquet ball court) and boogie boarding, led by pros and local athletes. "Our camp is designed to introduce kids to a variety of activities taught by the best instructors on the island, and (to) encourage them to see that fitness can be fun," said Jodie Melton, Honolulu Club camp coordinator.

The summer's second four-week session runs 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays from July 21 to Aug. 11 at the Honolulu Club, 932 Ward Ave. To register ($90; deadline is July 21), call 543-3974.
