Man hospitalized after McCully Zippy's stabbing

A 20-year-old man was in serious condition at the Queen's Medical Center today after he was stabbed outside the McCully Zippy's Restaurant last night, police said.

They said a man and his two friends walked out of the restaurant at 1725 South King St. at 11:53 p.m. when a group of approximately 15 males approached and challenged them to a fight.

The victim was stabbed in the back twice. The 15 suspects fled in several cars. Police were called, and an all-points bulletin was broadcast.

Officers stopped two cars occupied by three men ages 20, 21 and 24, and arrested them on suspicion of second-degree assault after conducting a field lineup.

Man arrested in basketball court assault case

A 25-year-old Kalihi man was arrested yesterday in connection with a basketball court assault last month. He was released pending further investigation, police said.

On June 10, a 37-year-old 'Aiea man had his jaw broken by four assailants during a basketball game at Halawa Gym, police said.

Yesterday the victim's friends identified one of the assailants at Halawa Gym. Police were notified, and the man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, questioned and released.

Arrest made in Waikiki store robbery

Police have arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree robbery after a liquor bottle was stolen from a Waikiki store last night, the store security officer assaulted, and the robber fled by swimming across the Ala Wai Canal.

The incident started at about 6:40 p.m. when a robber took a liquor bottle from the store and struck the security guard in the head with his backpack, police said.

Police arrested a man at the Ala Wai Golf Course whom they said had fled and swum across the Ala Wai Canal.

Man injured by falling weights

A man had his ankle broken after he was struck by a falling dumbbell weight hurled off an 18-floor apartment lanai yesterday afternoon.

According to police, the man was visiting a friend on the third-floor apartment at 2333 Kap'iolani Boulevard at 1:30 p.m. when he heard something falling outside and went to investigate.

As he looked up, he was unable to avoid a dumbbell that hit his leg and fractured his ankle.

Police were called. They said they found a woman throwing the objects off her 18th-floor lanai. She was given a mental evaluation and not immediately arrested, police said.

The man was treated and released from the Queen's Medical Center,

said.

Charges filed in ATM robbery case

Police have charged a 20-year-old man in a robbery in which someone was threatened with scissors and forced to withdraw money from several automated teller machines last month.
