Solid swell bringing high surf to south shore

Advertiser Staff

Waves predicted at 10 to 16 feet will pound south- facing shores tomorrow.

Beachgoers are advised to beware of dangerous shorebreaks and rip tides.

The National Weather Service and other forecasters predict a rise in surf from a pair of storms that merged south of French Polynesia last week. The weather service issued a high surf advisory for south-facing shores of all Hawaiian islands.

Wave heights are being measured differently now to reflect the height of wave faces, or as much as twice the heights trditionally reported in Hawai'i.

Solid surf on south shores should last through Saturday.
