Water main bursts in Waipahu

Advertiser Staff

A 12-inch water main in Waipahu burst last night, forcing police to close a portion of Mokuola Street near the Wai pahu Civic Center, officials said.

The pipe ruptured at 9:15 and cut water to three houses, said Board of Water Supply spokeswoman Denise DeCosta. Water was restored at 5:45 this morning, she said.

Police closed Mokuola Street between Nali'i and Kahuailani streets, DeCosta said. Repairs were expected to last throughout the day, with crews hoping to finish before rush hour.

DeCosta said she suspected the break was caused by corrosion.
