Robbers hit gambling room

Four robbers raided an illegal gambling room on Ward Avenue today and stole an undetermined amount of money, police said.

According to police, the robbery started about 12:35 a.m. when one of the robbers roughed up a doorman on the ground floor of the gambling room at 350 Ward Ave.

A second doorman tried to lock out the robbers, but they broke through the door using a crowbar. About 20 patrons fled to the back room while the robbers ransacked the office and stole money. One patron told police one of the robbers had a gun.

Wai'anae man held in stabbing

Police have charged a 21-year-old Wai'anae man in connection with a stabbing that sent a 40-year-old woman to Tripler Army Medical Center in critical condition Monday night.

Police said Jeremy Antonio was charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree terroristic threatening yesterday. His bail was set at $75,000.

Police accused Antonio of stabbing his ex-girlfriend's mother during an argument at her Makaha residence, then fleeing in his car. The woman has since been upgraded to guarded condition, police said.

Officer died of natural causes

An autopsy showed a 40-year-old Honolulu police officer who was found dead in his Waipio Gentry home on May 24 died of natural causes, according to the medical examiner.

Sgt. Kelvin Dow, a 20-year veteran of the police force, died of heart disease and suffered from liver damage, the medical examiner said.

In May, officers went to Dow's home on Mele Place because he didn't show up for work. They found his body on the floor of the master bedroom after a neighbor let them in, police said.

Dow was arrested while off-duty May 17 on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

2 men arrested in carjacking

Police have arrested two men in connection with a carjacking where robbers confronted a man and stole his car Tuesday in Wahiawa.

According to police, the men were stopped yesterday inside the stolen car on '̉hai Street and arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery.

The motorist told police that two men asked him for a ride at the Wahiawa Medical Building on Tuesday. At Mala Street, one of the robbers threw the man from the car and the two robbers drove away, police said. The man was treated for minor injuries and released from Wahiawa General Hospital.

Suspect detained in Kona death

Big Island police yesterday arrested a 24-year-old suspect in the death of Alden Pauline, who died at the Kona Community Hospital after he was found unconscious in a public park on Sunday.

According to police, the man was identified as Anthony Eagle, also known as Anthony Mutair, of Kailua-Kona, who turned himself in to police.

Preliminary autopsy results Tuesday indicated that Pauline, 46, was beaten to death.

Big Island man dies after fight

Big Island police are investigating the death of a 47-year-old man who died Monday after a fight in Waimea, South Kohala.

According to police, Harold Estes, 47, died at 6:33 p.m. at the North Community Hospital after a fight with a 48-year-old man.

Police responded to an 8 p.m. call Sunday and found that Estes was involved in a domestic dispute when the other man intervened. The two men got into a fistfight.

While police were investigating the incident, Estes began to have trouble breathing, and fire rescue personnel were called.

Estes was taken to the North Community Hospital, where he slipped into a coma and died the following evening.

7 face charges in drug search

Police arrested seven people during a drug search warrant Wednesday at a home in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision of Puna.

Police confiscated 14.7 grams of crystal methamphetamine, or "ice," nine marijuana plants about 2 feet in height, 3.6 grams of dried marijuana, 26› tablets of Schedule 3 and 4 drugs, and various drug paraphernalia.
