Windward residents urged to conserve water

Advertiser Staff

Windward residents are being asked to restrict their water use after a contractor damaged a 30-inch water main on Kahekili Highway.

The Board of Water Supply earlier asked residents in upper Ahuimanu, Kailua and Waimanalo to restrict their water use following the pipeline damage. But water supply officials later determined that Kaneohe residents are also affected and will need to conserve.

The board said reservoirs in the area are about 75 percent full, but will provide enough water if residents restrict their water use to "essential" needs, including cooking, drinking and personal hygiene.

Board officials said residents should not water lawns or gardens, wash laundry, clean cars or use water for other nonessential reasons.

The board said the damaged water pipe is located near Ahuimanu Road in front of the Ahuimanu Club House.
