BayFest events: Concerts, contests, rides

So much to do, so little time. Here are some highlights of the Ocean Concepts BayFest 2001:

  • 5 p.m.: Rail

  • 7 p.m.: Lo-Vibe
  • 8:15 p.m.: Natural Vibrations

  • 7 p.m.: Ten Feet
  • 8 p.m.: Ho'onu'a
  • 9:30 p.m.: Kalapana

• MCAF 5K Airfield Run: Get those running shoes to the starting line at Hangar 101 for a 3.1-mile race around the airfield. 4:30 p.m. today. $15 entry fee. 254-7597.

• LaserBlast Light Show: A BayFest debut, in front of the main stage. 9 p.m. today, 9:15 p.m. Saturday, 9 p.m. Sunday. 254-KBAY.

• E.K. Fernandez Carnival: 5-midnight today, noon-midnight Saturday, noon-11 p.m. Sunday. Ride scrips may be purchased. 254-KBAY.

• AAA Hawaii Classic Car Show and McKenna Motors New Car Show: Check out classic roadsters and sporty coupes. Or take your shot at winning a $84,000 Hummer from McKenna. 5 p.m. today, noon Saturday and Sunday. 254-KBAY.

• Fishing Tournament: Get hooked. 6:30 a.m. shotgun start Saturday at the Marina Pavilion, Building #1698. $230 registration fee. 254-7667.

• Ocean Concepts Children's Snorkeling Treasure Hunt: Kids age 5-18 can learn the basics of snorkeling with a treasure hunt in the pool outside Hangar 101. 1:30 p.m. Saturday. 254-KBAY.

• Coconut Island Boat Rides and Go Bananas Kayak Rides: Take a kayak around the bay, or hop on a boat to Coconut Island. Noon-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Kayak rides free, boat rides about $1. 254-KBAY.

• Europa Sports BodySearch 2001 Fitness Competition: Scantly clad contestants will be judged on personality, interview skills and — oh, yeah — physique. Thongs, however, are outlawed. 4 p.m. Saturday. $10 to enter. 477-0498.

• Gravity Kite Surfing Demonstration: Watch new tricks from a safe distance — shore. 1:30 p.m. Sunday. 254-KBAY.

• Bathtub Regatta: The classic homemade boat race with a four-person crew. 3 p.m. Sunday. Free. 254-7655.
