Seki ousted in Public Links golf

Mark Farrell of Westport, Conn., defeated Jim Seki of Honolulu 2 and 1 in the second round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship yesterday at San Antonio, Texas.
Seki, a former Punahou athlete now attending Stanford, was the only Hawai'i golfer to advance from qualifying to match play, which began Wednesday.
Walker Cup player Danny Green and U.S. Mid-Amateur winner Greg Puga advanced to the quarterfinals yesterday at the Pecan Valley Golf Club.
The 44-year-old Green beat 17-year-old qualifying round co-medalist James Vargas of Miami and 3 and 2 in the second round, and 20-year-old J. J. Wall of San Antonio 1-up in the third round.
Puga, the 30-year-old caddie at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, beat William Link IV of Acton, Mass., in 20 holes, and Jason Moon of Australia 2 and 1.
Andrew Sanders of Merritt Island, Fla., beat co-medalist Nick Cassini of Athens, Ga., 3 and 2 in the third round.
The quarterfinals and semifinals are today.

Shishido leads OCC: Iolani School student Pomaikai Shishido shot a 4-under-par 67 to take the first-round lead of the O'ahu Country Club Men's Invitational yesterday.
Shishido, who will be a junior, is two strokes ahead of Casey Kobashigawa, another Iolani golfer, Brandan Kop and Tony Okano.
Parker McLachlin and defending champion Joe Phengsavath shot 70s.
George Yamamoto shot a 72 to lead the senior flight. Wendell Kop leads the super senior flight after a 78.
The tournament continues today, with the final round of the championship flight on Sunday.
BASEBALL
3 to Lewis-Clark: Three Hawai'i players have accepted scholarships to play for Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, next season.
They are:
Hubert Pruett, a righthanded pitcher from The Kamehameha Schools, who was drafted in the 41st round by the Milwaukee Brewers in last month's baseball draft.
Gavin Concepcion, a catcher from Pearl City High School.
Kona Sampaio, an outfielder who was all-conference at Los Angeles Pierce College as a freshman, but sat out last season with a shoulder injury. Sampaio is a St. Louis School graduate.
HONORS
UH-Hilo nominations sought: The 10th City Bank/Vulcan Athletic Hall of Fame is accepting nominations of former University of Hawai'i at Hilo athletes and community members.
The nominees must have completed their athletic eligibility at UH-Hilo and surpass a five-year waiting period.
The Hall of Fame was established in 1992 with the induction of Vulcan basketball player Jay "The Bird" Bartholomew and head coach Jimmy Yagi, and all-American volleyball players Edie Manzano-Frazier and Alofa Tagataese.
