The wife of an 80-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer's is offering a $1,000 reward for anyone who finds her missing husband.

Masayuki Kubo, a resident of the Kapi'olani area, was last seen June 23.

Masayuki Kubo walked away from his Imperial Plaza condominium on Kapi'olani Boulevard on June 23 and failed to return.

"I'm hoping this will make people take more interest in helping police find him," Jessie Kubo said.

Investigating officer Phil Camero of the Honolulu Police Department's Missing Persons Detail says a security guard at a major Waikiki hotel assisted Kubo around noon on June 24.

"It was a solid lead, but nothing's come of it," Camero said.

The security guard told police the man identified himself as Kubo and gave her a telephone number to call. The number turned out to be a disconnected listing. The guard then called a taxi for the man, Camero said.

"We talked to dozens of taxicab drivers and nobody remembers picking him up," Camero said.

"My feeling is he's with someone. We can only speculate why this person hasn't called us."
