Family time, food and fun at YMCA

By Zenaida Serrano Espanol

A ballet performance, karate and judo demonstrations, and a Y-Indian Guide powwow will be among the highlights of the West O'ahu Family YMCA annual Family Fun Fair, to be held from 4 to 9 p.m. July 20 at the Mililani branch.

Mililani YMCA executive director Donna Roper said that a motto of YMCA is "Building Strong Families," and therefore organizers hope the fair will give family members a chance to spend quality time together. "It's one of our attempts to have family programming at the YMCA," Roper said.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will also feature live music, access to the swimming pool at the facility, as well as carnival games and children's activities for a nominal fee. Fair-goers can also purchase 'ono grinds, including shave ice, chili, rice, chicken plates and more.

Proceeds from the games and food sales will go to scholarships, staff development and Aloha United Way. For more information, call 625-1040.
