Farrington Highway reopens
Advertiser Staff
All lanes of Farrington Highway were reopened by 3 p.m. yesterday after damage from a water main break that shut down the highway were repaired.
The main was repaired late Saturday night, said Honolulu Board of Water Supply spokeswoman Denise DeCosta.
The 20-inch water line broke about 9 a.m. Saturday, flooding the highway and cutting off some Makaha residents from their homes. After the water was shut off and the flood subsided, authorities discovered a 15-foot-wide sinkhole in the highway.
About 6 p.m. Saturday, police opened a lane of traffic for Honolulu traffic, diverting Makaha-bound traffic to a detour on a dirt road.
