AIR NATIONAL GUARD
154th Wing best in nation
The 154th Wing, Hawai'i Air National Guard received its seventh Air Force Outstanding Unit award at Hickam Air Force Base headquarters yesterday.
The award is given for meritorious service between 1998 and 2000. In granting the award, the Air National Guard found the unit's combination of aircraft types, radar control, airspace and support made it the best-trained and equipped unit in the nation.
The 154th Wing patrolled no-fly zones over Iraq, and was involved in the military buildup against Iraq in November 1998. It also participated in NATO bombing of Serbian targets in and around Kosovo in March 1999. In all cases, the wing maintained a perfect safety record.
Officials at Hickam say the wing, commanded by Brig. Gen. Albert Richards, is the largest and most diverse in the Air National Guard.
VETERANS AFFAIRS
Telepharmacy project ends
The Veterans Affairs Medical and Regional Office Center, Honolulu, has completed a successful telepharmacy demonstration project, one of eight conducted in Hawai'i and the Pacific region.
VAMROC Honolulu initiated the project in December 2000, with installation of an automated drug dispensing system, with video conferencing capabilities, at an outpatient clinic in Hilo.
The system allows medication to be dispensed from a central location at Tripler Army Medical Center, with medication consultations provided by video conference. Veterans receive their prepackaged medications at the Hilo clinic.
In a survey of veterans, 94 percent reported satisfaction with the program.
