Two-year-old hit by car on Kaua'i

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — A 2-year-old boy suffered serious injuries about 5:30 p.m. Thursday when he was hit by a car on Opukea Street in Hanama'ulu.

The child was taken to Wilcox Hospital and then to Kapi'olani Medical Center on O'ahu for treatment. No charges have been filed against the 28-year-old woman who was driving the car.


Tourist drowned, autopsy indicates

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — A California man who died while swimming off Po'ipu Saturday drowned, an autopsy concluded. Howard Jaeger, 50, was swimming with fins, goggles and a boogie board during the afternoon when his wife, on shore, noticed he was not raising his head to breathe. A lifeguard brought him to shore and called emergency crews, but the man could not be revived.
