Wahine again team to beat in WAC
Advertiser Staff
For the third consecutive season, the University of Hawai'i Wahine volleyball team has been picked to win the Western Athletic Conference championship.
The Wahine received nine of the 10 first-place votes in balloting among the conference's head coaches. Coaches could not vote for their own teams.
San Jose State received the other first-place vote and was picked second overall.
The Wahine return four starters and eight players overall from their 31-2 NCAA Final Four team.
The Wahine have been picked to either win the WAC overall title or their division every year but 1998 when they were forecast second behind BYU in the then-Pacific Division. They ended up tying and UH won the tournament title.
This year, with the addition of Boise State and Louisiana Tech, the WAC will have 10 teams and play a conference tournament for the first time since 1999. The tournament will be held Nov. 15-18 in San Jose, Calif.
