LEEWARD

Board meeting rescheduled

The Makakilo/Kapolei/Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board will not meet tonight as listed the Neighborhood Commission's monthly meeting calendar because of a conflict in the use of the Campbell Estate Building's Laulima Room.

The board meeting has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 25 in the same place. The meeting agenda has not yet been released.


Job workshops scheduled

Three free workshops to help people seeking employment or job training will be held this week at the Wai'anae O'ahu WorkLinks office in the Satellite City Hall, 85-670 Farrington Highway.

A workshop titled "Who Am I?" will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon today for participants to take a more in-depth look at themselves and determine job interest and aptitude. From 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow a job-search skills workshop will be held. A computer lab day will be offered at the same time Friday.

O'ahu WorkLinks is a partnership of cooperating agencies, organizations and private businesses dedicated to workforce development. The workshop series will continue through the end of the month.

EAST HONOLULU

Board will meet tomorrow

The K?hala Nui Senior Living Community Center and dogs in Wai'alae Beach Park will be discussed at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1350 Hunakai St.

Also on the Wai'alae K?hala Neighborhood Board agenda is the subdivision of lots on K?hala Avenue and a possible board recess for August.

NORTH SHORE

Hale'iwa art festival slated

"Giraffic Park" will come to Hale'iwa Beach Park as part of the annual arts festival featuring artists, musicians, dancers, storytellers and cultural historians from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Some 57 artists will have paintings, ceramic pieces, glass, fabric and jewelry for display and sale. This year the festival will feature a six-foot wooden and a nine-foot metal giraffe sculpture and some keiki giraffe sculptures.

Two feature films will be showing about Waikiki and surfing. Edgy Lee's new film "Waikiki: In the Wake of Dreams" and the award- winning documentary "Surfing for Life" run at 7 and 8:30 p.m., respectively, Saturday at the Waialua Community Center, 66-434 Kamehameha Hwy.

This year Margo Goodwill was selected as the poster artist for the fourth annual event. She will donate the use of her artwork that will be reproduced on T-shirts, tank tops and posters for the benefit of fine arts programs in area schools. Past event posters by Rebecca Gates and Wyland also will be available. Call 637-2277 to order posters or pick them up at the Hale'iwa Art Gallery, The Growing Keiki or the North Shore News.

WINDWARD

Road signs will be installed

The state Department of Transportation will install electronic message signs at various areas on the Windward side of O'ahu starting today between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The contractor will install four electronic message signs at: Kamehameha Highway between Pua Inia and Hoen streets; Kane'ohe Bay Drive between Makalani and Puohala streets; Kahekili Highway between Likelike Highway and Kulukeoe Street; and Likelike Highway between Anoi Road and Kahekili Highway.

During working hours, one Kane'ohe-bound and one Honolulu-bound lane will be closed to install the signs and for other work.

The sign at Kahekili Highway between Likelike Highway and Kulukeoe Street is scheduled to be installed at night on July 25 and 26, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.


CENTRAL

HPD recruits to graduate

The Honolulu Police Department's 137th Recruit Class graduates at 7 p.m. today at the Hawai'i Okinawa Center in Waipi'o Gentry.

The 36-member class began training last December.

Chief Lee Donohue and recruit Carlene Lau are scheduled to speak at the ceremony. The new officers will be assigned to patrol duties with veteran officers in the field for hands-on training.
