Enjoy the art of hula and cheer on 22 halau from O'ahu, Maui and Guam as they compete in the 26th annual Queen Lili'uokalani Keiki Hula Competition, Thursday through Saturday at the Blaisdell Center Arena.

"The purpose of the competition is to provide an opportunity for the children to competitively demonstrate their achievements in hula, and also to honor the queen because she dedicated her life to the children," said Jan Itagaki, director of the Kalihi-Palama Culture & Arts Society Inc.

The competition, a project of the society, was established in 1975 and is open to children six to 12 years old.

The three-day event will include the Miss and Master Keiki Hula competition, 6 p.m. Thursday; the hula kahiko group competition, 6 p.m. Friday; and the hula 'auana group competition, noon Saturday.

Tickets may be purchased at the Blaisdell Center box office.

Prices for each day are $8.50 for arena floor and loge seating, and $7.50 for upper level seating; prices do not include the box-office service fee. For ticket information, call 591-2211. For information about the event, call 521-6905.
