VETERANS

Vietnam-era veterans sought

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 858 is seeking veterans who served between Feb. 28, 1964, and May 7, 1975.

The group meets the first Saturday of each month. For information, call (800) VVA-1316 (882-1316).


MARINES

Reserve MPs train on O'ahu

Reserve military police from Lexington, Ky., worked with Hawai'i-based Marines this month to fulfill their two weeks of reserve duty.

The Reserve Marines began with marksmanship training at Ulupa'u Crater. They also refined capture techniques, including handcuffing and take downs of armed suspects.


ARMY

Mass transit soon to pay off

The Department of Defense has launched a program providing up to $65 a month reimbursement for people who use buses or van pools. All soldiers and Army civilians, and Army National Guard and Reserve members on active duty, are eligible.

Applications must be turned in during the first month of the quarter to be eligible for the next quarter.

Applications can be found on the Web. Completed forms should be faxed to 655-8971.


Last soldiers back from Sinai

The final group of 200 soldiers returns today from a six-month deployment in Sinai, Egypt. Soldiers will be reunited with their families and friends at 11:30 a.m. at C Quad on Schofield Barracks.

AÊwelcome home ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Conroy Bowl for all soldiers who served in the Sinai.

The public is invited to both events.


Couples renew wedding vows

One hundred couples in the 25th Infantry Division (Light) renewed their wedding vows Friday at Schofield Barracks.

Army chaplains sponsored the event. One couple was married at the Nehelani Club afterward.


AIR FORCE

Hickam on increased alert

Hickam Air Force Base has implemented heightened security measures, ordered after the indictment of 14 people last month in connection with the 1996 bombing of a military barracks in Saudi Arabia. The additional security was ordered June 22 for all Pacific Air Forces bases until further notice.
