Pedestrian killed in Wahiawa

Advertiser Staff

WAHIAWA — Kamehameha Highway was closed from Kilani Avenue to Whitmore Avenue for more than three hours today after a car hit and killed a 45-year-old North Shore woman.

Police said the woman was hit near the Karsten Thot Bridge just before 4:18 a.m. by a Pontiac sedan headed toward Wahiawa. She was not in a crosswalk.

The driver, a 50-year-old North Shore man, drove her to Wahiawa General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Police reopened the road about 7:30 a.m. The accident snarled traffic, which was re-routed through Wilikina Drive and Kamananui Road.

Twelve pedestrians have been killed in traffic accidents this year, police said.
