Cyanotech Corp. of Kailua-Kona, which makes microalgae products, said its net loss expanded to $413,000 in the quarter ended June 30 from a loss of $22,000 in the same period a year ago.

Net sales of $2.31 million were up 7 percent from $2.17 million a year ago. Net loss per diluted share was 2 cents.

Gerald R. Cysewski, chairman and chief executive, said the company spent more for clinical studies to determine the health benefits of Bio-
