"PLANET OF THE APES": This version is neither a remake of the 1968 original nor a sequel to the first five films and subsequent television show (all inspired by Pierre Boulle's 1963 novel). Mark Wahlberg plays Leo Davidson, an Air Force astronaut whose ship crash-lands on a planet ruled by simians and worked by human slaves. Helena Bonham Carter plays a sympathetic ape who eventually joins Wahlberg's posse which includes Estella Warren as they try to escape from the apes, led by an evil general (Tim Roth) and his first-in-command (Michael Clarke Duncan). Look for Charlton Heston, the star of the original, in a humorous supporting role. Opens tomorrow at Pearl Highlands 12, Ward 16-Plex, Waikiki 3-Plex, Kahala 8-Plex, Windward Stadium 10, Dole Cannery 18, Koko Marina 8-Plex, Pearlridge 16-Plex, Ko'olau 10-Plex, Kapolei 16-Plex, Mililani 14-Plex, Restaurant Row Theatres, Enchanted Lake Cinemas, La'ie Cinemas, Prince Kuhio Stadium Cinemas (Big Island), Makalapua Cinemas (Big Island), Keauhou 7-Plex (Big Island), Kaahumanu 6-Plex (Maui), Kukui Mall 4-Plex (Maui), Lahaina Cinemas (Maui) and Maunaloa Town Cinemas (Moloka'i).
