Fire on Kapahulu lanai investigated

Fire investigators were looking into the cause of a fire that did an estimated $20,000 in damage to a Kapahulu apartment yesterday afternoon.
The fire at the first-floor unit of the Holiday Parkway on Kapahulu Avenue was reported at 5:25 p.m. When firefighters arrived, the blaze was being fought by a building resident and a police officer, said HFD spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada.
Tejada said the two used fire hoses from the building. The resident suffered cuts to his elbow when he broke the glass to get to the hose.
A woman living in the apartment said she was asleep in a bedroom when she heard popping and cracking sounds. She went into the living room, saw the flames on the lana'i, and called for help.
The fire apparently began on the lana'i, but the interior of the apartment received smoke and water damage. The woman was not injured, Tejada said.
